WOMEN IN SCIENCE

Never heard of Madame Curie?

From the UNESCO website:

In Sweden, for example, women form the majority (60%) of students enrolled in a Bachelor’s programme, but their numbers decline as they move up the education ladder, accounting for 49% of doctoral students and only 36% of researchers.  The data tool reveals this trend across every region, highlighting the conflict that many women face as they try to reconcile career ambitions with family-caring responsibilities.

After reading this example about Sweden, I decided to check out the tool for both Portugal (my home country) and France (where I live in now):

PORTUGAL

54% of bachelor students are women

53% of PhD students are women

46% of researchers are women

FRANCE

55% of bachelor students are women

47% of PhD students are women

26% of researchers are women

Gender gap is not so big in Portugal, but what about France? Incredible, huh?

Is gender a career factor in the Academic Research?
